Allegiant Book Summary and Review
Spoilers of Divergent and Insurgent
Tris is placed on trial with the truth serum after she revealed that there was something more outside their world. She resists the serum enough to free herself, Christina, and Cara. They face the struggles of Evelyn’s strict hand controlling all the factioned people, and the fighting that goes on among the groups Eventually, a rebelling group called the Allegiants contact Tris and her friends, and they form a plan to send a group outside to help them. Tris’ group discovers the truth about their city, and that the world is not as small as they had once thought it was. They learn about the history that resulted in these experiments, as well as the belief that non-divergents are inferior.
Tobias struggles especially with this discovery, but Tris doesn’t believe so at all. They form plans of revolution against these ideas, though independently at first, causing some strong disagreements between the two. Eventually they work it out and create a plan with their group, but this plan doesn’t work without a great sacrifice.
This book switches to dual perspectives between Tris and Tobias.
There is a joke about protection made by Tobias. There is a lot of cuddling and kissing and one scene where they sort of undress? At least to underwear? I don’t know, it was unclear, but some of the fanbases think they had sex, I didn’t though. Also, they recalled to the touch-stomach-training-scene from Divergent while teaching/practicing knife throwing.
Personal Opinions: Still not a fan of the romance, but it was easier to ignore in this book because it wasn’t as mixed into everything. I thought the insight into Tobias’ behavior was really cool, it made him seem more human and less of the grown-up. I liked how Tris stood up for herself more in this book, and how Tobias’ POV really provides more insight on his motivations. I thought the solution at the end wasn’t very good though, but it still worked out. Overall was my favorite of the trilogy, the epilogue killed me, but I did have it spoiled. I actually loved the ending, contrary to popular opinions. I thought it was the only acceptable option and made sense with everything going on. Actually loved this type of ending so much I’ll be looking for novels with similar endings.
