Introduction

Hi! My name is Jolene and this is my blog! I love books but have trouble finding ones that I like. So, this summer I've decided to set the goal of reading about ten books. Some that I feel are in my comfort zone and some that are a bit "out-there". The genre that I usually like to stick to is fantasy, recommended for 13+ readers (like Lunar Chronicles). I will also post a few short stories every now and then too, for the fun of it. This blog is made not only for my reading journey, but for yours too! Maybe you're having the same problem as me and this blog will be helpful! I'll try to post at least once a month, but ideally two-to-three (I'm a bit busy this summer). Happy reading!

Divergent Book Review

Beatrice Prior lives in a (dystopian) society people have been separated into five factions based on what they blame is the cause of suffering in the world: Abnegation, the selfless, blame selfishness; Amity, the kind, blame aggression; Candor, the honest, blame duplicity; Dauntless, the brave, blame cowardice; Erudite, the intelligent, blame ignorance. The jobs these people take are based off of which faction they choose, Erudites may become teachers, scientists, librarians; Dauntless become guards who patrol the border between the town and the wilderness, or they take on jobs where they could protect civilians; Abnegation work in charities; they are also the only faction allowed to work in the government because they are so selfless (makes a lot of sense, but some think it’s a problem).  At the age of sixteen, everyone must take an aptitude test to find which faction they’re best fit for, to make their decision easier. Once they’ve chosen, they must go through an initiatio...

Better Than The Movies Book Review

I normally wouldn’t read romances, but my friend really likes them and this was a book swap.  Better Than the Movies is about a highschool girl named Liz in her senior year. The book is mainly about Liz trying to convince a boy she’s had a crush on since primary school, along with the struggles of moving on from her late mother. Liz's mom died when she was young, and controls much of her life. Liz was really close to her mom and is constantly thinking about what her mom would’ve wanted her to do. Her love of music, vintage, and most importantly: perfect romance.  When a boy she’d always had a crush on moves back to town, she believes he is perfect for her. But it appears he’s been getting close to another girl. Liz teams up with her annoying next door neighbor by making a deal with him.  Throughout this adventure, readers learn just how much her late mother affects her life. Readers learn about the attachments that could still be held onto and the process of grief. The to...

Keepers of the Lost Cities 9.5: Unraveled

I have been a KotLC fan for three years, and this book release I actually made a lot of the food from the series! (Also, I’m not a shipper if anything seems off compared to normal opinions) It was a bit disappointing getting another 0.5 book instead of the anticipated book 10, but Shannon Messenger made up for it with the explanation page, as well as the new information! Readers explore Keefe’s journey in discovering his new ability, “Humanland,” and his search for answers about Ethan Benedict Wright II and his daughter, Eleanor Olivia Wright. He makes similar discoveries as Sophie does in Stellarlune about “rocks.” Keefe meets someone familiar who assists in his journey and discovers a secret about a person he’d known for a really long time. He has secrets he doesn’t plan on sharing, promises he’s made.  If I write any more I might spoil it! Though I really want to share more, I’ll spare you. Just so you know, Shannon did rewrite Chapter 42 in Keefe’s perspective, though none of ...
